Blitz Bazawule’s adaptation of Alice Walker’s classic novel, based on the Broadway stage musical, The Color Purple promises to be a sweeping, rousing and moving vision of one woman’s struggle for resilience, love and personal freedom, starring Fantasia Barrino and Danielle Brooks (both reprising their roles from the stage musical, and both nominated for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress respectively at the BAFTAs and Golden Globe Awards) alongside Halle Bailey, Taraji P. Henson and Colman Domingo.

Produced by Steven Spielberg (director of the 1985 film adaptation) and Quincy Jones, The Color Purple follows Celie (Barrino), an African-American woman living in the American South, who suffers profound hardships throughout her life, but ultimately finds strength and hope in the extraordinary and unbreakable bonds of sisterhood with Nettie (Brooks).
