Chevalier (12A)

During the Covid Lockdown I spent a lot of time walking our dog and listening to a multitude of podcasts. One podcast that I found really accessible and informative was ‘You’re Dead To Me’ from the BBC where historian Greg Jenner hosts a comedian and historian to discuss subjects as diverse as ‘Genghis Khan’, ‘Medieval Toilets’ or ‘History of High Heals’.

One particular episode piqued my interest as I had never before heard of the historical character Chevalier de Saint-Georges. This master fencer, violin virtuoso, composer and friend of Marie Antionette was a huge figure in the 18th century but thanks to Napoleon who disliked the man and our British disinterest in French history his story is not as well known as it should be.

There was mention in the podcast of a possible film being produced about this man and jump forward a couple of years, here it is. Chevalier (12A) will be shown at the Guildhall cinema this June and I am really looking forward to seeing the story of Chevalier de Saint-George depicted on the big screen - Iain.
